When a player’s hand isn’t good off the deal, he may “fold.” He or she may no longer compete for the pot, but may still be forced to put in chips. The player who folds is called a “drop.” He or she loses all of the chips in the pot.

When there are two or more identical hands tied for the highest card, the next highest card wins. For example, if three kings tie for the highest card, a high card such as an ace breaks the tie. The high card also wins if there are no other high cards. A pair of kings isn’t a good hand off the deal, but a pair of kings won’t win any ties.
